LIMACON 2023 International Conference: Advanced Hybrid Lightweight Materials and Technologies for Global Circular Economy

The “Advanced Hybrid Lightweight Materials and Technologies for Global Circular Economy” – LIMACON, a three-day international conference focused on hybrid materials, composites, lightweight structures, and the circular economy, took place at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Bialystok University of Technology from November 12 to 14.

This dynamic event is the result of a collaborative effort between Bialystok University of Technology, the Podlaskie Region Board, and Polish and foreign industry clusters. It was designed to serve as a crucible of ideas in material and mechanical engineering, transcending conventional boundaries.

“The aim of the conference is to bring business and science together, to allow scientists to get acquainted with companies operating in Podlaskie, but also in Poland and abroad. We have received guests from Germany, Estonia, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia and Sweden. We want to learn about the possibility of joint research and activities that commercialize the results of scientists’ work.” – informs Izabela Zgłobicka, DSc, PhD, Eng., chairwoman of the conference organizing committee.

Throughout the event, numerous presentations and panel discussions addressed topics related to the omnipresence of composite materials and their significance in the modern economy.

Technological advancemenis is closely connected with the increasing importance of economical materials – those that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, people-friendly and environmentally sustainable. We recognize the pivotal role of materials engineering, which, in the pursuit of such materials, influences social, economic, and ecological dimensions. As manufacturers of femtosecond lasers, we possess a profound understanding of the challenges faced by diverse industries. Their functionality and the methods of material processing are crucial considerations for optimal utilization across a broad spectrum.

Such materials can prove beneficial in various areas, including the use of non-metallic types of reinforcement for concrete structures (geopolymer composites), bearing seals for heavy-duty military vehicles (carbon composites), or in tissue engineering and drug delivery (PLA composites).

Our company’s role as a sponsor allowed us not just to support, but to actively shape the success of this international gathering. We are pleased that Fluence could actively participate in the conference, presenting solutions with broad applications in the realm of material laser microprocessing – areas Fluence Ultrafast Laser Application Laboratory (ULAL) engages with on a daily basis.

The “Advanced Hybrid Lightweight Materials and Technologies for Global Circular Economy” conference served as a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and networking. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the organizers, fellow sponsors, and participants who collectively transformed this conference into a hub of inspiration and innovation

The conference was organized by the Bialystok University of Technology with the support of the Marshal’s Office of the Podlaskie Voivodeship as a Strategic Partner with the participation of three key clusters – the Polish Construction Cluster, the Evoluma Industrial Cluster and the Polish Composite Technology Cluster with the support of the Foundation for the Development of the Bialystok University of Technology.
